FAQ

Straight answers on fire door compliance.

The questions facility directors, plant operations leaders, and compliance teams ask us most often — answered without the fluff.

01Are annual fire door inspections required?

Many facilities are required to inspect fire door assemblies annually, especially in healthcare, commercial, institutional, and other regulated environments. FireDoor Nation helps document each inspected opening, identify deficiencies, and provide a clear report for facility records, AHJ review, and survey preparation.

02What does a fire door inspection include?

A fire door inspection typically reviews the door, frame, hardware, clearances, labels, latching, self-closing operation, damage, glazing, gasketing, coordinator function when applicable, and other items that may affect fire door performance. FDN documents the condition of each opening and identifies any deficiencies that need correction.

03What happens if a fire door fails inspection?

If a fire door fails inspection, the deficiency should be documented and corrected. Common failures include damaged doors, missing or painted labels, excessive gaps, failed latching, failed closing, missing hardware, non-compliant glazing, and field modifications. FireDoor Nation can help prioritize repairs and replacement needs.

04Can FireDoor Nation repair deficiencies after the inspection?

Yes. FireDoor Nation can assist with fire door repairs, hardware corrections, gap remediation, replacement planning, and closeout documentation. This helps facilities move from inspection findings to completed corrective action.

05When should a fire door be replaced instead of repaired?

Replacement may be recommended when the door is severely damaged, missing required rating information, improperly modified, delaminated, has major holes or structural damage, or when repairs are no longer practical or cost-effective. FDN can help identify which doors are repairable and which should be replaced.

06Do you provide documentation for AHJ or survey review?

Yes. FireDoor Nation provides organized inspection documentation that can include door locations, inspection results, deficiency notes, photos when applicable, recommended corrections, and closeout documentation after repairs are completed.

07Can you support multiple facilities or locations?

Yes. FDN supports single facilities, multi-building campuses, and organizations with multiple locations. Our process is designed to help facility teams manage inspections, repairs, documentation, and compliance planning across multiple sites.

08How long does a fire door inspection take?

The timeline depends on the number of openings, facility size, building layout, access, and documentation needs. Smaller facilities may be completed quickly, while larger campuses or multi-site projects may require additional scheduling. FDN can review the facility details and provide an estimated timeline before work begins.

09What types of facilities does FireDoor Nation serve?

FireDoor Nation works with healthcare facilities, surgery centers, assisted living facilities, universities, hotels, commercial buildings, government facilities, property management groups, and other organizations responsible for life safety compliance.

10Can we request a quote before scheduling an inspection?

Yes. Facilities can request a quote by submitting basic information such as facility type, number of buildings, estimated door count, service needed, location, and timeline. FDN will review the request and follow up with next steps.

11What information should we provide when requesting a quote?

Helpful information includes the facility name, location, estimated number of fire-rated openings, number of buildings, service needed, whether there are known deficiencies, any AHJ or survey deadlines, and photos or documents if available.

12Does FireDoor Nation only inspect fire doors?

No. FireDoor Nation focuses on fire door inspections, repairs, replacements, fire and smoke damper inspections, firestopping support, fire barrier compliance, and life safety documentation support.
